20 This is the last Will and Testament of me John Jones
21 of Gwernafon in the Parish of Trefeglwys in the County of Montgomery, Dyer First
22 I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my
23 Executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease
24 Whereas there is now due to me from my Nephew Andrew Jones of Gwernafon
25 aforesaid and Richard Jones of Neuadd in the Parish of Trefeglwys aforesaid (the Sons of
26 my late Brother Andrew Jones of Gwernafon aforesaid) the sum of Two hundred and
27 forty nine Pounds And Whereas there is now due and ownig to me from, or
28 standing to my credit in, the North and South Wales Bank at Newtown the sum of
29 Three hundred and fifty Pounds and tehre is also now due to me in respect thereof half
30 a year’s interest And Whereas I am also possessed of household furniture plate linen
31 china glass liquors fuel and housekeeping stores money securities for money book debts
32 stock in trade tools and other personal estate and effects now I do hereby give and
33 bequeath the said several sums of Two hundred and forty nine Pounds and Three
34 hundred and fifty Pounds together with all or any interest that may be due thereon
35 respectively at the time of my decease together with all the singular the said personal
36 estate and effects unto my two Brothers William Jones of Rhydycarw Mill and Richard
37 Jones of Gwernafon and Andrew Humphreys of Llawryglyn Mill all in the Parish of
38 Trefeglwys aforesaid their heirs and assigns upon the Trusts and to and for the
39 intents and purposes hereinafter expressed and declared of and concerning the same, that
40 is to say; As to the said sum of Two hundred and forty nine Pounds so due and
41 owing to me from my said Nephews Andrew Jones and Richard Jones as aforesaid
42 Upon Trust (as soon as conveniently may be after my decease) to call up and pay
43 over the same together will all interest which may be then due for the same unto my
44 said Brother William Jones his heirs and assigns to and for his and their own absolute
45 use and benefit But I expressly declare that the said sum of Two hundred and forty
46 nine Pounds and interest as aforesaid is to be accepted by my said Brother William Jones
47 in full satisfaction and discharge of all claims he may have upon me And as to the
48 said sum of Three hundred and fifty Pounds and interest thereon now lying in, and
49 due and owing to me from the said North and South Wales Bank as aforesaid I give
50 and bequeath the same unto my Trustees Upon trust to invest the same in their
51 names in the Public Funds or on Government Securities in the United Kingdom or in real
52 investment from time to time for any other of the kind prescribed And upon further
53 Trust to permit my Brother Evan Jones of Dolfallen in the Parish of Trefeglwys
54 aforesaid living his life to receive the annual income and interest of the said sum of

56 Three hundred and fifty Pounds or the investment thereof, and whose receipt shall be
57 a sufficient discharge to the party or parties paying over the same to him And after the
58 decease of my said Brother Evan I direct my Trustees to call up the said sum of
59 Three hundred and fifty Pounds and to pay and distribute the sum of Fifty Pounds part
60 thereof unto and amongst the Children of my said Brother Evan share and share alike
61 And in case any or either of such Children shall die in the life time of my said Brother
62 Evan without leaving lawful issue Then the share and shares of him her or them so dying
63 is to be equally divided among the Survivors of them But in case of the death of any or
64 either of such Children in the life time of my said Brother Evan leaving issue Then I
65 direct that the share or shares of him her or them so dying shall be divided between his
66 her or their Children in equal shares and proportions the share of ever Parent to be
67 distributed amongst his her or their own Children respectively And as to the sum of
68 Three hundred Pounds the remainder of the said sum of Three hundred and fifty Punds
69 I give and bequeath the same unto my said Brother William Jones and Richard Jones
70 their heirs and assigns absolutely share and share alike as Tenants in Common I
71 direct (but subject to the previous dispositions) that my Trustees shall cconvert my personal
72 trust property (except such portion thereof as is hereinafter specifically disposed of) not
73 consisting of monies invested in stocks funds or securities yielding income; and shall
74 stand possessed of the proceeds Upon Trust in the first place to pay the following
75 Legacies which I give and bequeath to the five Children of my said Brother Evan, that is
76 to say; To Edward Forty Pounds; Evan Ten Pounds; Margaret Ten Pounds; Sarah Ten
77 Pounds; and Jane Five Pounds which said several last mentioned Legacies I direct to be
78 paid to the said five Children of my said Brother Evan respectively at the expiration of
79 twelve Calendar months after the decease of my said Brother Evan And in case any or
80 either of such five Children shall die in the life time of their said Father, their his or her
81 Legacies or Legacy to be divided amongst the Survivors or Survivor of them share and share
82 alike in the same manner as is hereinbefore limited and declared of and concerning the
83 said sum of Fifty Pounds part of the said sum of Three Hundred and fifty Pounds I
84 direct my Trustees to pay Five Pounds towards the expenses of the Funeral of my said
85 Brother Evan (wherever that may occur) and that he my said Brother Evan is not to
86 contribute anything towards the expenses attending my Funeral which I desire may be a
87 public one and that the expenses thereof be borne entirely by my said Brothers William
88 and Richard – I give and bequeath to the said Andrew Humphreys one of my said Trustees
89 the sum of Four Pounds as an acknowledgement for the trouble has has taken with me and
90 I request that he will attend with my said Brothers William and Richard when they
91 open my Locks and take and account of my property after my decease – I give and

93 bequeath to Mr John Morgans Calvinistic Minister the sum of Two Pounds to be
94 paid to him by my Trustees at the expiration of two calendar months after my decease
95 I give and bequeath to Miss Mary Anne Parry of the Queen’s Head Inn in Llanidloes
96 the sum of Ten Pounds, provided she continues unmarried for the space of twelve Calendar
97 months after my decease; And to Miss Jane Marshall of the Queen’s Head Inn aforesaid
98 and to William Son of Alexander Marshall of Birmingham the sum of One Pound
99 each as an acknowledgement of the regard I entertain for them respectively which said
100 three last mentioned Legacies I direct to be paid by my Trustees within twelve Calendar
101 months after my decease I give and bequeath to my said Nephew Edward the Son
102 of my said Brother Evan five Shears, four of which are now numbered with white
103 Lead and marked “Baker’s” Shears, and the other “Clutterbuck’s”. And as to all the rest
104 residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what
105 nature or kind soever the same may consist that I shall die possessed of (after payment
106 of my just debts and the Legacies hereinbefore mentioned and bequeathed) I give and
107 bequeath the same every part thereof unto and to the only proper use and
108 benefit of my said Brothers William Jones and Richard Jones their heirs and
109 assigns as Tenants in Common Subject nevertheless to the payment of my
110 just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the several Legacies hereby bequeathed
111 And in case my said Trustees or either of them shall die in my life time or shall on
112 my decease renounce the trusts of my Will or in case any Trustee for the time being shall
113 die or become unwilling or unable to act or shall cease to reside in England Then I
114 empower the surviving or continuing Trustees or Trustee, or in default of such, then the
115 retiring Trustee or the executors or administrators of the deceased Trustee as the case may
116 be, by any writing to nominate a new Trustee or new Trustees for the purpose of filling
117 such vacancy or vacancies; and such new Trustee or new Trustees shall have the ssaid
118 power in all respects as the Trustees hereby appointed And I direct that the Trustees for
119 the time being of this my will shall be responsible only for so much money as
120 shall come to their own respective hands and that they shall not be answerable the
121 one of the other or others of their nor for involuntary losses or for the acts of defaults
122 of each other And I empower my said Trustees to retain and allow to each other the
123 Costs and expenses incurred and a reasonable allowance for necessary loss of time in
124 and about the execution of the trusts thereof or in relation thereto I appoint my
125 said Brothers William Jones and Richard Jones to be Executors of my Will and
126 recommend and charge them not to enter into litigation with any party or parties in
127 carrying into effect the trusts thereof if it can be possibility be avoided I revoke
128 all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In witness

140 This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me John Jones of
141 Gwernafon in the Parish of Trefeglwys in the County of Montgomery Dyer bearing
142 date and duly signed on the day of the date hereof Whereas a mistake has occured
143 in my said Will in stating that the sum now due to me from the North and South
144 Wales Bank is Three hundred and fifty Pounds and interest instead of Three hundred
145 Pounds and interest which is the sum now actually due it being my intention to pay
146 into the said Bank the sum of Fifty Pounds in addition to the said Three hundred
147 Pounds as soon as I should receive a sum of money for Timber sold to Mr Henry
148 Griffiths of Dolgelley Now I do hereby declare it to be my Will that the sum of
149 Fifty Pounds shall be added by my Executors to the said sum of Three hundred
150 Pounds in order to meet the provisions contained in my said will out of the said
151 Timber money in case the same shall not be paid until after my decease In
152 Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fifteenth day of May One thousand

166 form of law decreed valid, and administration granted to the within named Executors, William
167 Jones, and Richard Jones, they being first sworn in common form of law, and that the whole of the
168 goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to Three Hundred Pounds,
